“We were pure ourselves and not yet enshrined in that living tomb which we carry about, now that we are imprisoned in the body like an oyster in his shell.” - Socrates
Here in the heart lies the door to all possibilities. On earth we want quick pleasures, sensory satisfaction, control of things, we want to exploit nature's resources.
Not so in spirit. For spirit lies within each one of us – and within each of us lies everything we need. Every desire, every wish, every satisfaction, every joy. For you are soul, soul encased or in the tomb of the body, carrying around the weight of the world.
If you can find safe space to quietly shake off the world, you can find simple joy. Life is simple. Life is joyful. Life can be experienced consciously in spirit.
Find time to free your mind. Chant God's name. For God and His name are the same. Find focus and meditate upon God. In no time, He will be with you. His presence will be felt. You can awaken to your original, joyful spiritual nature and consciousness.
We have a higher purpose and that is to find our true home in the spiritual world so that we may enjoy life on earth without becoming bound by it, consumed and so addicted. We have a purpose greater than material well-being, for in all cases is temporary. We are to direct our energies inward, not outward as we do in Western Civilization.
Beyond eating well, getting adequate physical exercise, and receiving sufficient rest to keep our bodies strong and fit, we need something more. More important, and less tended to, is the inner self's need for spiritual nourishment and attention. Ignoring our spiritual health requirements creates an overwhelmed self who lives according to negative material tendencies. When we ignore spirit, we fall victim to negative forces and succumb to anxiety, hatred, loneliness, prejudice, greed, boredom, envy, and anger.
It is in the ancient Vedic literature that we learn how to counteract and prevent these subtle infections of the self by incorporating into our lives a program of self-examination and steady inner growth based on spiritual strength and clarity of thought.
The potential to transcend material bondage and our capacity for developing complete psychological and spiritual fulfillment lie fully present and are available within everyone. However, this potential must be uncovered by a genuine spiritual process.
In the Gospel of Saint Luke, Jesus instructs mankind to look within for true spiritual life: “Neither shall they say, Lo here, or lo there! For, behold, the Kingdom of God is within you.” The English philosopher and statesman Sir Francis Bacon noted, “the sense of hearing striketh the spirit more immediately than any other senses.” Spiritual sound vibrations or meditation upon the word of God is most powerful.
Put your ego aside and chant aloud. Sing God's praises. For to sing out loud is the way to call upon spirit. To call back your true nature, unabashed and assured. For when you are ready, spirit will arrive – Meet spirit and come fully alive while still living on earth. If you are ready, you can “wake up to your original self, the soul, which is characterized by eternality and is full of knowledge and ever-increasing pleasure.” - Chant and Be Happy, The Power of Mantra Meditation.
