An apple tree doesn’t need to try as hard as it can to make apples grow from its branches. All it does is soak up the sunlight from above and moisture from the soil. In the same way, when you are rooted in Christ (Colossians 2:6-7), you will soak up the fresh newness of the Spirit. By living in the sunshine of God’s love you will produce the kind of goodness that pleases the Lord. And as you grow in Him, He carries on working in your life—through your daily struggles—to prune away your natural reactions and replace them with the fruit of the Spirit.
Faith is our fruit of the Spirit – our foundation. Faith helps us endure the ebb and flow of life. Born naked from a state of dormancy we are thrust into life, designed to endure cycles of life or seasons.
Just as trees go dormant in winter and come alive with new life in spring; in infancy, our spiritual seeds are sown.
We are like little “flowers” -- pretty and cute, dependent upon caregivers. With proper nourishment, compassionate care and love, we thrive and grow into vibrant beings ready for the summer season of productivity; headed for “ripeness.”
Dormancy, or pause, is crucial in our developmental cycle. We must brace for the harshness of the winter cycle, take it, accept it – with the faith to overcome in anticipation of developing into ripened fruit that will be enjoyed and appreciated.
Spring comes with hope, a time to come alive with new life – to bud and grow into fruit. This well-awaited stage of production is fleeting and quickly hastened by the hot summer long haul.
As our seeds sprout with growth, we enter harvest or the autumn of our lives. Everything we've accumulated; our knowledge, our experience, makes us stalwarts of our “forest” or community. We bear fruit of accumulated wisdom and become sages of the spirit.
With firm rooting and open-hearted awareness of the Light that flows and nourishes -- we are continually replenished, capable of growth-- for reaching full bloom-- providing strength and beauty for others.
