The zone. The pocket. Your groove. Center. I call it home.
Getting into "the zone" means being present in the moment with awareness - to be able to know you're in it. The zone is something athletes are familiar with . . . they feel focused, in rhythm, powerful, and time stands still. Athletes have described a feeling of being "in the zone" as a state where they feel invincible, as if the game slowed down, the crowd noise fell silent, and they achieved an incredible focus on their mission.
The zone is possible because there's trust, the ability to act on instinctive feelings. It's being in tune and acting on foresight. Top athletes enter zone-like states because they are prepared enough to let go -- to act on their impulses without fear.
Feeling "in the zone" is not just for athletes. We can find "the zone" in any activity, whenever we're completely focused. The zone allows for incredible productivity and creativity. When we lose track of time, we get in flow.
Drawing or coloring, listening to or playing music, watching or playing sports, dancing, singing, walking, observing nature are experiences that allow us to flow with life.
Flow occurs when we're in alignment with Source, in tune with higher Self. Alignment occurs when we are fully present, connected, centered, and feeling love.
Abraham Hicks calls it “being in the vortex.” She reminds us to check in with ourselves to see if we're in alignment. It's as easy as checking in with our thoughts. If our thoughts are positive and feel good, they are aligning us; if negative and uncomfortable, we are out of alignment.
I like to refer to my zone or my inner world as “home.” When I close my eyes, I escape the outer world and retreat into quiet stillness, creating another reality; a beautiful inner world. The idea here is to get past negativity, to overcome past circumstances and the negative associations bringing about negative thinking and behaving, creating blockages and imbalances, making us feel a sense of unease, disconnection, and fear.
Since the mind creates pain and suffering, our goal is to change our beliefs and to find a place where things can be easy, loving, comforting, positive, and safe. This place can only be found within, at the seat of our soul, within our heart.
We are always connected with Source. Source is constantly flowing and streaming through us - it is us. We are always vibrating with Source energy. But we need to allow to flow with, not against It. We just need to make the conscious effort to identify, connect and align with our higher Self.
Let's practice how it feels to get in touch with higher Self or Source energy. Start by choosing a neutral word -- since it won't create a reaction or conjure up images. For instance, the word "one" or “center” should be a good one try.
Stream positivity for one minute. Just say whatever comes to mind when you are in "the zone." Think back to when you felt one with something; a dance, the ocean, a piece of music, a theatrical performance, holding a newborn baby . . . if you still don't have an image, imagine what it felt like when you were safely tucked within your mother's womb.
This exercise will help you find a feeling of balanced, calm connection. Simply close your eyes . . . settle in, and take in a few deep, cleansing breaths. Now for one minute mentally recite whatever comes to mind when you think about the word "center."
For example, here's mine:
Center brings balance; a sense of calm, peace, ease, flow, security, happiness, excitement, eagerness, warmth, good feelings. I like being centered. I feel good when I'm balanced and at center. There's no resistance when I'm centered. Center is strong. Center is real. Center is the truth. I feel alive when I'm in center. I feel colorful, magnetic, and powerful in center. I am vibrating and emitting good vibes from center. Center feels good. Center feels right. Center is safe. Center is reality. I am protected at my center. I receive Spirit in center. I am open, willing, able, confident, purposeful, flowing, and happy at my center. I love from my center. I am happiest when I'm centered. It feels safe. It's calm and nurturing. It feels like home. I am strong when I'm home and centered. I am focused, balanced, centered. It feels good. It feels right. It is easy. There's freedom. There's space. There's light. There's peace. There's serenity. I am in it. I am guided. I feel grateful. I feel warm, loving, vibrant, full of life. I am beautiful. I AM.
One positive word builds upon another, yet another, and then momentum is created -- positivity breeds more positivity -- it just needs focused effort.
And in just one minute you shifted into positivity, aligned yourself with Source. The shift is instantaneous. Your body will feel warmth, invigorating peace, and high vibrations of positive talk. Do this exercise daily. Twice daily if you can!
Take time each day to observe what you're thinking. Is it positive? Are you working towards alignment or going against the current?
We grow up thinking that life has to be so hard, especially if we want to feel good. Feeling good or centered doesn't mean being lazy. Unfortunately, we've been conditioned to believe that results only come from struggle and pain. So we tend to be unrealistic with ourselves
We make things harder by staying trapped in our minds, replaying the past and fretting over the future. By practicing positive thinking, we can shift gears and disconnect from the outer world by going within and connecting with a wholesome inner world.
This practice is all about easing up on ourselves and letting go – accepting life as it comes. We don't need to punish ourselves or prove anything by paddling our boats tirelessly upstream or by strapping unnecessary baggage upon our backs –perpetually climbing, in search of that peak.
Truth is to be found with ease . . . in gentle downstream discovery; the thrill is on the descent. It's in complete surrender that we flow with Source and get "in the zone," to find our true home.
